Adventure Force Double Trouble Mod Not Quite A Guide
February 25,

After getting a project done (after sitting in pieces and various stages for two months), I ended up with better than expected results. I feel compelled to share my thoughts and show the potential for a late, but arguably one the best blaster releases.

Mod Basics

As I don’t see the need to repeat the basic steps of modding the Adventure Force Double Trouble blaster, I will simply link to an existing guide by Lord Draconical. Rewiring the internals will be necessary. You’ll need to replace the on/off button or use it as a trigger for a MOSFET or relay.

After that, you can review the things I did differently.

New Cage, New Feeding Mechanism, New Blaster

The Boomtendo cage, in place of the original.

Fang Revamp motors, Cyclone flywheels.

This is the current version of my magazine adapter.

The magazine adapter currently works with only stick magazines. Improved compatibility to come.

A stronger return spring is required if you use a magazine adapter. This joint will need to be glued together.

There are a few incremental improvements to the blaster now available. Some of it due to myself, and some due to Boomtendo. Let’s start with his cage.

Boomtendo Flywheel Cage

(LINK HERE) The cage was originally meant for the Commandfire, but both blasters use the same mounting posts. The cages fit perfectly after a minor adjustment. The 42.5mm option is the best for foam darts. The orange dart tab on the original cage is no longer present. This tab prevents children from firing any other darts than standard.

Due to the wide shell, its very easy to install aftermarket 130 motors, even if youre not the best at soldering.

Removable Mag Adapter

(LINK HERE) This design was created by me a while back. The main unit was printed in one piece and the mag holder was remixed and meant for glueing to it.

It unfortunately only holds stick magazines I will need to finally get around to redesigning it to accept drum magazines. The entire adapter can be removed so that the user doesn’t have to choose between magazines and stock drums. If you have the original cage, you will need to remove the orange dart tab.

Oh, and a video from initial testing of the adapter.

However, you will need to open the blaster and glue the joint on the pusher arm. The pusher arm is designed to buckle in place if it encounters excessive force (like a child trying to fire the blaster without batteries, and the dart getting stuck in the flywheels). This buckling also happens when using a magazine, due to the force of the follower spring. To solve this, a joint will need to be glued together (see picture). A stronger return spring is also required. After that, youll be able to finally use magazines.

Performance

With the 42.5mm cage, Fangs Revamped, and Cyclone flywheels, I averaged 144fps out of the Double Trouble. Although the existing battery tray, which normally holds 6 AA batteries, can accommodate a Lipo battery easily, you will need to remove the plastic ribs.

The Double Trouble was one the most popular releases of and it debuted on shelves right before the holidays. With a little work, it can also be a great superstock blaster, if for some reason 90+ fps out of the box isnt enough for you.
