Ultra. Ultra. As a mag-fed pistol the Ultra Five was able to impress the Magnus in Mega. I cannot recommend the Ultra Five because of firing issues and other problems.

Five Holds Four

The Ultra Five’s magazine has an inner magazine that opens by pulling back the priming slide. The long prime is necessary because of the strong spring inside. It takes longer to load than other internal magazine blasters. The little nub at the back of Ultra darts is what gets used in all safety features and Dart DRM. It is necessary to maneuver it past the front of your breech. This can make it slower than you would like in the heat.

The blaster can hold four darts once loaded. You can then close the slide to light it. Fire, prime, fire again. It is nothing new in this sense.

One tactical rail sits on the slide. The barrel is simply an orange protrusion. I believe it’s there to distinguish the blaster against weaker models from overseas.

Like previous Ultra blasters the handle is too narrow in the direction of the x, but too wide in its direction of travel. The huge trigger guard is only there for fashion and does not do anything. Larger hands will want to simply remove it, but for the rest of us, it isnt horrible. The trigger area itself is a bit limited, however.

Performance

My Ultra Fives (I had two of them) averaged 104fps. This is nothing to sneeze about and enough to hit the 120 ranges at an angle. Accuracy didnt seem to change from other Ultra blasters. Rate of fire is somewhat slow, due to the incredibly long priming motion at best I could do1.

5 darts every second

War Testing

This was a blaster I wanted to try out in battle before making a final determination, and Im glad I did. I used a mixture of regular and Sonic Screamers darts and had many misfires.

It would appear that, even with darts loaded correctly, sometimes darts do not fully seat into the barrel. I’m not sure if this is due to darts being worn or tolerances in dart manufacture. I do know the rear nubs were intact. Despite this, the misfiring darts were not far enough back for the nubs to engage with the air release valve. It was frustrating to pull the trigger and see nothing leave the barrel.

Internals

After opening the blaster, the main point of attention is how everything fits inside. A geared priming system is required because the spring is very stiff. Since its a small pistol, however, the designers put the gear train flat, underneath the priming slide.
